Join us in celebrating Black Student Leadership at Wentworth! Portraits of Black student leaders are now on display in the Guarracino Gallery, taken by student Marcia Williams (Business Management, ’24). Marcia states, “These students are more than who you sit next to in class, but a leader that is balancing their studies, extracurriculars, co-op and personal life to represent more than just themselves but to carry the strength and willingness to be in a leadership position to be that change for the future of other black students at Wentworth to look up to.”
Students featured in the exhibit include:
- Harold Saint-Surin (Mechanical Engineering, ’23)
- D’Yani Gates (Computer Engineering, Minor in Electrical Engineering and Business Management, ’24)
- Julianna Muiruri (Mechanical Engineering, ’24)
- Isaiah Simpson (Mechanical Engineering, ’23)
- Shuaib Ibraheem (Mechanical Engineering, ’26)
- Akpenou Cannelle Bocco (Mechanical Engineering, Minor in Chemistry, ’24)
- Edmund Agyekum (Electromechanical Engineering, ’25)
These students serve in leadership roles in numerous organizations on campus, both local and national in scale. Williams chose to photograph and interview these seven students because she looks up to them as not just leaders, but as future change makers. Each photograph is accompanied by a quote from the student about what Black leadership means to them.
Williams, who is also an active member of the Wentworth community, hopes that showcasing Black leadership will inspire others to respect one another, change their perspective on the meaning of honoring Black people, during Black History Month and throughout the year, “so we can all continue to uplift each other as we lead together.”
This exhibition was made possible with funding from Wentworth’s Accelerate Co-Op Experience, which invests in students’ entrepreneurial pursuits. Through this program, Marcia Williams has launched her business, PhotosbyMarcia LLC, and is currently booking appointments. Learn more by following Marcia at @photosbymarcia on Instagram.
