Welcome back to Wentworth, Leopards! See below for information on exhibits and books to get you back into the swing of Spring 2025:
ARCH2000: Building with Wood, Guarracino Family Gallery
The exhibit showcases precedents studies completed by Sophomore architecture students in their Fall 2024, Arch 2000 studio course. In groups of two, students researched, analyzed, and constructed – in drawings and physical models – their selected precedent. The work was completed in one week.
Students analyzed wooden construction through projects that exemplify filigree or tectonic systems, characterized by the use of linear members—such as columns and beams—that create a structural framework. In these filigreed or tectonic systems, enclosure and structure can be separate and layered, distinct from stereotomic systems, where enclosure and structure are combined.
Following the exhibition and lessons learned from the precedent study, students designed the Charles River Wooden Boat Building School, in Magazine Beach in Cambridge. Students explored ideas of partnership and creative exchange between the community and students, this time through the rich boating culture of Cambridge and Boston, and wooden construction.
Holocaust Remembrance Day, DEI Display
In the United States, Days of Remembrance are observed annually around April 28–29th, coinciding with the anniversary of the 1945 liberation of the Dachau Concentration Camp. Globally, January 27 marks International Holocaust Remembrance Day, designated by the United Nations in 2005 to honor the anniversary of Auschwitz’s liberation.
The year 2025 holds special significance as it marks the 80th anniversary of these momentous events in history.
Explore the stories and histories behind the commemoration through these curated resources and featured books in this display.
