WIT-C19 FACE SHIELD PROJECT
Wentworth’s mission is grounded in social impact and serving communities, and problem-solving, which is part of our DNA. When COVID-19 caused an unprecedented demand on our healthcare system and depleted the inventories of personal protective equipment [PPE] for our healthcare workers, Wentworth answered the call, putting its talent and capabilities to work. In the early stages of the Pandemic, we formed a strong partnership with Brigham Women’s Hospital [BWH] and worked closely with their Innovation Team. While initially manufacturing their BWH/PanFab Mk1 Face Shield, the Wentworth Covid-19 Response Design Team, composed of an interdisciplinary team of industrial designers, engineers and architects, launched a parallel process of creating a high volume option which would be flat packable and thus easier to store and ship to growing COVID-19 hotspots as the virus expanded in the USA and across the globe.
The BWH Innovation Team’s clinical expertise and input was invaluable in arriving at this final design. A special thank you to Dr. Sherry H. Yu for her dedication to the process.
OPEN SOURCE
We are excited to present and share the WIT-C19 Face Shield as an open source product. If you are interested in producing the shield, please fill out the form and we will send the files to you so you can become a Catalyst in combatting Covid-19 with the Wentworth design.
The information collected will be used only to record the impact of WIT-C19 in our Impact Map. If you’d like to give feedback on the design or share how WIT-C19 supported your community, please reach out to accelerate@wit.edu.
