Light is essential to a library – without it, you can’t very easily see the books or computer screens you need to study and do research. Light also creates an environment, sets a tone, and speaks volumes about the kind of space it occupies. In the renovated library, the lighting design communicates a clean, open, modern feel to accompany the overall architectural design plan.
Taking advantage of natural light is a key element, and the two-story windows in the main area of the library will meet with expanses of windows along the quad to bring in much more natural light to the library space. With glass walls for study rooms, even the enclosed spaces will receive much more natural light.
LED lighting in a variety of forms will be incorporated into the renovated library, with the help of Perkins + Will and Available Light, a beautiful combination of direct and indirect lighting in a pleasing linear design will illuminate the renovated library. The future is bright!
