‘“I can tell you, your future is much greater than you think.”
Speaker and honorary degree recipient Anil D. Jha, MET ’68, had these words for the nearly 300 graduates in the audience in Tansey Gymnasium at Spring Commencement.
Jha, founder and chief executive officer of HydroNovation Inc., is one of the inventors of continuous electrodeionization (CEDI) technology. During more than 40 years in the water purification industry, he has developed crucial medical products for the U.S. Navy and NASA.
“The possibilities are endless in this country,” Jha added. “If an opportunity does not exist, then go around and make it.”
Student speaker Evdokia Mandalou, MSCM, told the graduates that depending on the choices they make, they stand to either be blamed or praised by the next generation.
“Let us make this world a better, more loving, happier place for those to come,” she said.
Willard B. Merrill, age 100, received an honorary bachelor of technology degree, 78 years after he earned his associate degree in machine construction and tool design at Wentworth. His son, John, NET ’65, also received an honorary bachelor of technology degree from the Institute as part of his 50th reunion celebration.
The Institute awarded 299 diplomas, including 172 bachelor’s degrees, 115 master’s degrees, and 12 associate degrees. Among the graduates was the first group of students to earn fully online master’s degrees at Wentworth.
The Alumni Association presented its Alumni Awards to members of the graduating class: Asive Ray Osborne, Architectural Technology; Ryan Zraunig, Building Construction Management; and Antonio Geraldo Sestito Jr., Electromechanical Engineering.
The Dr. H. Russell Beatty Award, for outstanding scholarship, was presented to Matthew Joyal.
