Scene: A large, loud crowd celebrates in the street. Then the noise fades and soft music begins to play as the crowd parts and a man and a woman catch each other’s eye. It’s as if no one else is there. They smile at each other and both think they’ll never see each other again.
Until they do, serendipitously—bumping into one another, exchanging greetings, and agreeing to go on a date. Years later, the two marry.
It’s what movies are made of. But for Seth Porter, BCMT, ’07, and Jessica Sopalsky, BINT ’08, it was the very real beginning of their love story.
“We locked eyes on the street,” says Jessica, speaking of the fateful night the two caught glimpses of each other in fall 2004 when the Red Sox won the World Series and crowds filled the streets in celebration. “Something just clicked for both of us.”
A couple of months later, the two ran into each other on Wentworth’s campus and began dating shortly thereafter.
Jessica and Seth were engaged while vacationing on Martha’s Vineyard in July 2010. More than a year later, the two said “I do” on November 5, 2011, in front of 150 guests at Chateau Hawthorne in Hudson River, New York. The couple, who live in Boston, honeymooned in the south of France.
“I couldn’t imagine spending the rest of my life with anyone else,” says Jessica. “It’s a perfect match.”
