To update from our previous blog post on Feb 12th about the change from Crocodoc to New Box View and how the features integrate, Blackboard recently announced some updates to the New Box View and held a webinar at the end of February to explain these more in detail. The recording of the webinar can be accessed here.
Unfortunately, being able to download documents with annotations is still “In Design” and no estimated time of delivery. It is hopeful that the feature is in the design process, however. To express your concern with the need for this feature, please reference this community forum post to vote and comment.
Here are the updated features and roadmap, which I will further touch on below:
There is a list of open bugs, listed below in the screenshot and expected fix:
The closest update will be the ability to draw annotations, which is planned for early March 2018. This will help with the highly requested need to be able to “strikethrough” and draw a box around an area. Although it is not an exact replacement from what was available before with Crocodoc, it does help alleviate the situation.
There are also improvements to point annotation so you can now click, type, and post without having to go back to the top navigation bar. Also, hovering over a highlight and annotation will now pop up the expansion of comments whereas before it would only pop up over annotations.
We will continue to keep you posted with updates to the New Box View. For any help with using the New Box View, please contact us at lit@wit.edu.
