Black and white portrait of a manJohn Heinstadt enjoyed a distinguished 36-year career at Wentworth. He began as a faculty member in the Department of Civil Engineering before he was promoted to academic department head. He then transferred to the Division of Business and Finance where he ultimately advanced to his most recent position of vice president for Business and Finance.

“John was a visionary in many ways as he assisted in turning around Wentworth’s financial fortunes. Certain financial actions that he instituted during his tenure at Wentworth are still in place today and serve as a foundation for financial sustainability,” says Robert Totino, vice president, Finance.

Mr. Heinstadt was a retired Navy captain who served in Vietnam and he was committed to helping Wentworth’s veteran population. A native of Baltimore and an avid Orioles fan, he took great pride in gloating when his team beat the Red Sox. He also had a profound affection for Wentworth and its students. His former employees remember a no-nonsense manager who would also do anything for them.

“John could be intimidating at times,” says Charlene Roy, director, Business Services, “but he also had a heart of gold.”
