New and Noteworthy – May 2022

Every month TLC will post the newest and noteworthy materials on the Teaching & Learning Hub. Here is May’s list.

Updates:

  • Farewell to Julie Wong, Associate Director of Learning Designs and Solutions! It is with bittersweet emotions that we send off Julie toward her next adventure. While we are happy for her as she pursues a new career path, we are saddened to lose such a pivotal colleague. Julie joined the College of Professional and Continuing Education in 2017, transitioned with Wentworth Online in 2019, and joined the Teaching & Learning Collaborative in 2020. Her many talents and contributions strengthened the teaching and learning environment for students and faculty in part-time, undergraduate and graduate programs across learning modalities. Julie’s passion for course design, course readiness, faculty onboarding and development, and managing/coaching staff will be missed. Please continue reach out to TLC colleagues at teach@wit.edu for consultation, support, and partnership. Her last day is May 6th.

Start of Semester

Teaching Strategies & Pedagogy:

  • Attend the Guilt-Free Book Club – Please join your colleagues at the Guilt-Free Book Club on Thursday, May 5th from 12:30-1:30. We’ll be wrapping up our discussion of Teach Students How to Learn by Dr. Saundra McGuire, focusing on Chapter 11 – Teaching Strategies to Groups & Resources Galore. No need to read to attend, but reading will enrich your experience. Access the chapter, register for the Zoom meeting, and watch past and future recordings all at our book club website.
  • CoLab Podcast Episode 2– Three TLC instructional designers – Josh, Megan, and Lucy – discuss the benefits of the TILT framework, which is used to clearly state a course assignment’s purpose, task, and assessment criteria. TILT is an easy and impactful adjustment instructors can make to help their students succeed. Available wherever you get your podcasts!
  • Teaching Reflection Journal – TLC welcomed faculty and staff to an enriching open house in Beatty 318 on Wednesday, April 20th. Congratulations to our raffle winners: David Simpson, Lauren Melfi, and Mario Herold! All open house attendees received a teaching reflection journal, and we have one for you too! Please visit our website to request a journal and access resources to help you build a reflective practice as an educator as we transition between semesters.
  • How to Restore Archived Panopto Videos – You might find you need to restore archived videos. View the support article to follow the steps. Keep in mind that restoration may take 48 hours or more.
