Lt. David C. Jeanes, AET ’66, P.E., retired after 34 years as president of the Steel Market Development Institute (SMDI), a business unit of the American Iron and Steel Institute. He was responsible for developing and implementing an industry-wide strategic plan to advance the competitive use of North American steel. For that contribution, David received the 2010 Market Development Lifetime Achievement Award.
“I’ve been fortunate to work in an industry that had its senior leadership committed to achieving long-term success despite many economic challenges over the years,” says Jeanes. “During both good and poor market cycles, the senior management of the SMDI investor companies consistently supported the investments and work plans required to bringing competitive steel solutions to the marketplace.”
