Robert “Bob” E. Carlson, EES

Robert “Bob” E. Carlson, EES ’69, of East Walpole passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at the Boston Center for Rehabilitation. Bob joined Wentworth as a member of the Department of Electronics and Mechanical on September 5, 1972, and was employed at the Institute for over 35 years.

His work ethic, project planning skills, and quality workmanship made him a valuable asset to both the department and the Institute. Students, staff, and faculty appreciated his willingness to assist them regardless of the task.

Fred Driscoll, interim department head, recalls, “When Bob finished a project it had an absolutely professional appearance and was so carefully constructed it appeared to be manufactured. This ability to do high-quality work showed students what they could accomplish. He had a wonderful ability to visualize how the completed project should appear and then calmly plan the steps necessary to accomplish it.”

Besides having a passion for electronics, Bob was an avid model railroad train builder and was skilled in automotive engine repair. He enjoyed reading, particularly about natural resources and science, and spending time with family and friends.

Bob was the devoted brother of Everett A. Carlson of Cambridge and the late Kenneth O. Carlson, CHE ’65.
