Aksel Solberg, BARC ’09, MARC ’10, won the Napkin Design Contest at November’s Build Boston convention with a structure focused on juxtaposition. Charged with designing a public space that drew attention to the increasing value and scarcity of water, his entry featured a glass enclosure that would offer visitors a view of the Boston waterfront, then—as they turned to leave—information about issues like global water shortages.

“I wanted to create a moment where the visitor has an ‘ooh ahh’ reaction to the beauty of the water,” says Solberg, a designer and project manager at Gary Wolfe Architects. “And then give them a wake-up call.”
