We’re off to a great start

Last week, 86% of our respondents indicated they are feeling are good about this semester. Fantastic!! This is why I love the start of the new academic year so much. There is a great energy around campus. Let’s hope this continues into the next few months!

I am also feeling good about this semester. In the Division of Student Affairs, we are off to a great start. Our move in for all of our resident students was one of our best ever. The staff in Housing and Residential Life did a nice job coordinating move in efforts with many other departments.

Last week’s Activities Fair was a huge success. All of the student organizations were able to collect names of interested students. Knowing what we know about student involvement (involved students are happier and do better academically), this definitely puts a lot of students onto a path to success.  Thanks to the staff in the Center for Student Engagement for coordinating this annual event.

Speaking of annual events…what’s better than our Career Fair in the spring?? How about a Career Fair in the fall?!? Our Co-ops+Careers staff has done an amazing job organizing the upcoming Career Fair on September 20th. Over 180 organizations and companies will be on campus recruiting for co-op and full time positions.

Today, group fitness classes begin in the new Fitness Studio in 610 Huntington. This new space will allow classes to be held consistently throughout the week. Also, look out for some new programming out of the Schumann Fitness Center in Beatty Hall.

This week, we hope to see many of you at the welcome socials. These are great opportunities to meet other students, as well as faculty and staff. Welcome socials are co-hosted by the Center for Student Engagement and the Center for Diversity and Social Justice Programs, which will have its first full semester this fall. The center, which opened mid-spring, will be home to the cultural student organizations. The staff are busy planning their fall programming, including Geek Week…can’t wait for that!!

The Center for Wellness and Disability Services last year encouraged us to consider our resiliency and how we can control our own happiness through Project 40. The staff provided great leadership to this necessary program. The Division of Student Affairs is happy to have contributed additional resources to help impact our greater campus community. Project 40 will be hosting lots of programs this year, so be sure to keep an eye out for those.

I’m looking forward to the possibilities that await us all this semester.  Keep us posted…let us know how you’re enjoying the fall semester!
