#WITCares about Puerto Rico

Dear students, faculty, and staff,

As President Pantic stated in her message last Friday, Puerto Rico is facing unimaginable devastation as a result of Hurricane Maria. While relief efforts are underway, the road to recovery is long and there is still so much left to do. While I am not surprised, I have been moved by the number of faculty, staff, and students who have contacted me to inquire about how the Wentworth community can help Puerto Rico.

President Pantic is once again challenging the Wentworth community to a two-week donation drive to show Puerto Rico that #WITCares. Wentworth will match contributions made by our Wentworth community from today until Wednesday, October 18, 2017, up to $2500.

Below are three reliable funds focused on fundraising efforts.  Faculty, staff, or students making a monetary donation through these or other preferred Puerto Rico relief donation sites, using their wit.edu email address, can email or bring a copy of the receipt to me (wennera@wit.edu, Rubenstein Hall, room 003). These receipts will be tallied at the end of the 2-week challenge.

For those unable to contribute online, there is a collection jar in the Office of Student Affairs, located in Rubenstein Hall, room 003. If all you can give is the spare change in your pocket, please know every penny counts. All funds collected will be added to the overall donation amount.

In addition to financial donations, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) is collecting much needed supplies, which are listed below. Drop-off boxes can be found at the Info Hub, Office of Student Affairs, the Center for Diversity and Social Justice Programs, and the Office of Housing and Residential Life.

  • AA, AAA and D batteries
  • Battery powered flashlights
  • Battery powered fans
  • Battery powered radios
  • Construction gloves
  • Large trash bags
  • Disposable cups and plates
  • Bottled water in gallons
  • Duct tape
  • Canned foods
