#FINDMEFRIDAY: Union Oyster House

Congratulations to Rachel Colon for being the first student to tweet a selfie from the December 1st #FindMeFriday location!

A little about this week’s location:

Originally named Ye Olde Union Oyster House, the Union Oyster House is located at 41 – 43 Union Street in Boston, between Faneuil Hall and the Haymarket.  It is the oldest restaurant in the United States and has been continuously serving customers since it opened 1826. The building in which it is located was circa 1704 and was listed as a National Landmark in May 2003.

In its 191 years of operation, the Union Oyster House has had only three owners. The current owners, Mr. Joseph A. Milano, Jr. and Ms. Mary Ann Milano Picardi have been in charges since 1970.

The Union Oyster House is not only famous for its historical value, but also for the seafood that it serves. The name of the restaurant is clear indication of its specialty, but in addition to the oysters, they are also well-known for clams, lobsters, and baked beans. And, fun fact, the toothpick made it’s first appearance in the United States at the Union Oyster House.

The Union Oyster house has been recognized nationally many times, including: 2014 CONDÉ NAST Travelers — World’s 10 Oldest Restaurants; 2014 American Culinary Federation — Achievement of Excellence Award; 2013 USA TODAY Readers Choice Awards — 10 Best Seafood Restaurants; and 2012 FORBES 10 Classic Great Restaurants in the World.  For more information about the Union Oyster House, including a view of its delicious menu, visit their website at http://www.unionoysterhouse.com/pages/awards.html.
