Video Resources

Using various modalities for course content can help ensure student success in your classroom. Students thrive when they have an opportunity to learn in the modality that best suits their needs. Examples include: watching a video, listening to a lecture or a reading, or using interactive content. Check out some of the multimedia options we have to enhance student learning.

Recorded videos can improve student success!

Lecture capture technology that supports asynchronous access can improve course retention and student grades (Briggs, 2007). Videos can be used for course intro videos, micro lecture content, flipped classrooms, and more!

Step 1

Record your content.

Step 2

Store and caption your video.

Step 3

Add to Brightspace to deliver content to students.

Guide for Recording Videos

Wherever you record, make sure you have good lighting and audio.

  • Lighting: Avoid backlight, instead make sure you face a flattering light source
  • Audio: Stand within 24″ of the microphone/camera.
  • Framing: The camera should be level with your head and shoulders.

Tips and Tricks

  • Test first. Start with a short (30 second) video to test audio and connection.
  • Keep it short. Students don’t watch videos over 10 minutes long.
  • Use pause. Collect your thoughts and then resume. The goal is zero post-production.
  • Chunk content. Create multiple video segments if you have to.
  • Be accessible. Automatically generate captions for your videos using the auto-captioning tools in Brightspace, Zoom, or Panopto.
